    Our history

Veteran Development and Construction was formed in 2009 and is solely owned and operated by Charles H. Simmons. We are a “Full Service” General Contractor providing commercial construction services and a government certified “Veteran Owned Small Business”. We specialize in retail, restaurant, industrial, office and other commercial projects including new ground up construction, build-outs, retrofits and renovations. Other services we offer include site analysis and assessments, preliminary and conceptual estimating as well as “Auto Cad” drawings. We maintain a staff of experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, carpenters and office personnel with proven “track records” and provide them continuous training as well as the latest in technology. Computers and digital photographic equipment in the field allow us to maintain continuous, “real time” communications with our clients on each and every project on a daily basis. We perform framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, carpentry, and demolition services “in house” with our crew of carpenters and other tradesmen. This enables us to provide a variety of diversified services for our clients such as “roll out” programs, emergency repairs and ongoing maintenance needs. We have developed a network of proven and established sub-contractors that we work with on a regular basis that allow us to provide the best possible service while maintaining a competitive edge.

We take tremendous pride in each and every project we complete and boast that we do not have a single, unhappy client. Due to this Veteran has never had the need to advertise or market our services as all of our work is done for repeat customers or by referral. We have experienced continuous, steady and controlled growth from our first year sales of approximately $800,000 to over $18,000,000 annually due to consistently providing every client service and performance that is unsurpassed in the industry.

    Key Personnel

    Charles H. Simmons

After serving four years in the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty in Viet Nam, was honorably discharged in 1975. While attending college he worked summers in construction and started a full time career as a police officer. During his career in Law Enforcement he continued performing small construction projects on a part time basis to supplement his income. After attaining the required years of police service necessary for retirement and due to the growth of his small construction business the decision was made to reverse his career path. In 1993 he teamed up with a friend who was a General Contractor for the next 17 years on a full time basis while maintaining a “part-time” position as a police officer. Starting as a Site Superintendent he solidified his experience and advanced thru the ranks attaining positions as Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Chief Estimator, General Manager and was eventually promoted to Vice President of Construction. Throughout his tenure he continued his education completing numerous courses in business administration, project management, construction estimating, computer skills and others. He wrote, instituted and enforced policies and procedures that helped them grow from a “start- up” company, to an organization with annual sales of over twenty million dollars. In 2009, he made the decision to pursue his own business and started Veteran Development and Construction.

    David Kirkland
    Operations Manager

Dave started his career at a young age as a carpenter in the industry building custom homes. At the age of 21 he started his own company providing carpentry, metal stud, drywall and acoustical ceiling work for various General Contractors on commercial, retail, medical and industrial projects. Dave’s company and the quality of the services that he provided was well known to Charlie from previous projects he had been involved with After performing as a sub-contractor for several Veteran Construction projects, Dave and his entire crew were given and accepted an offer to join Veteran in 2011. Dave initially started as our carpentry foreman charged with the coordination, training and oversight of our in house carpenters and laborers. After demonstrating his expert and diversified experience not only in carpentry but all trades, he was soon promoted to Superintendent and eventually Project Manager. Dave’s dedication, leadership and strong organizational skills led to his promotion as our Operations Manager in 2015. His responsibilities now include the daily oversight of all construction activities including Project Management, Estimating, Superintendents and our field staff.
